This is NOT the basemap which cannot be overwritten. The file named 'gmapsupp.img' is the 'supplemental' mapset that is currently on the SD card and is the mapset you are seeing when the GPS is operating and this SD card is in the unit. You just select the maps and click the "Send to Device" icon. MapSource will take care of all of it, including replacing the existing. In this directory is a gmsupp-IMG file (I guess the name is like this I am sitting at work now).Īnd do I have to save the maps from Mapsource into the directory "garmin"? Will it be an IMG? No that's not my intention i paid for these maps just would have been nice to make a backup copy on SD card if you will, for my other unit,or for back in the 350 for later use if needed. There is already a directory on F: called "garmin". He's not trying to pirate Garmin software (maps) IMO At least, that's how I read his question. The StreetPilot c320 can only be updated by buying a new Garmin map SD card.
The OP was trying to figure out if he could buy the map update download for his 350 which has a valid unlock code, to next update the SD card used in the c320.
The normal upgrade path for a c320 was to buy a new SD card and that is still what he has to do. It has to have its maps on an SD card and those were not upgradeable.
You could then install the single map file on both units using each one's unlock code.īut Daman has a discontinued StreetPilot c320 which has no internal memory for maps. Each would have their own unlock code and require only downloading the map update file once. What you say is true and would work if you owned 2 nuvi models for example.
The product codes and map unlock codes are found for each validated unit in "my Garmin" You must go through a validation process with Garmin to get a product code assigned to each eligible unit. I use this process to avoid the multiple downloads. dmg on the Macintosh) file is launched, the update process prompts you for a valid product code for the targeted unit.Īfter the download is started, detach the gps, and do not select the close or launch options for the downloader. Thanks all i knew that was the case but wanted to make sure i wasnt missing something.Ī single download may be used to update multiple units, or to reinstall a map to an elligible unit. You are right it worked the same with me needed the unit plugged into the computer to verify, couldn't DL to any other spot, i guess i'll just have to buy a updated SD card every few years for the ol 320. If you want the maps on an SD card so you can continue to swap the card between units, you will have to buy another SD card with the Garmin 2010.20 maps preinstalled on it. I couldn't select an SD card if I wanted to.
Once the installer verified my GPS and began to run, it gave me no selectable option to install the maps anywhere else but on the main Garmin unit. In fact, I couldn't even download the file from the Garmin website without the GPS being cabled to my PC so it could verify the unit. I just updated the maps on my 660 and when I ran the installer program, it looks for the GPS to be attached to the PC so it can verify the unit.
The license key for the 2010.20 update that you download, is associated with a single GPS unit and can only be used to update maps on that unit. This allows you to move the licensed map on the SD card between GPS units. In this case the license key is associated with the SD card, not the unit it is plugged into. If, for example you bought a 2010.10 map from Garmin on an SD card, like you have, it cannot be updated. According to the Garmin website, "Maps that are preprogrammed onto SD cards are not updatable so they do not need to be registered."
